From the heights of a small hill stretching out towards Monte Subasio, Spello jealously guards its Roman heritage. It is the most impressive of all the Umbrian towns with its Porta Venere, the theatre, amphitheatre, spa, the city walls, Porta Consolare, and Porta Urbica.
Spello is an artistic treasure trove with its frescos by Pinturicchio depicting The Nativity, The Annunciation, The Dispute at the Temple, as well as those by Perugino. Not to be missed are the Church of St Antera, the Church of St Claudio, the Church of St Maria Maggiore and the Round Church, the Piazza della Repubblica and the Palazzo Comunale.
