Citta della Pieve Hotels - Umbria

Città della Pieve is a strikingly authentic medieval town, built almost entirely in laterizio, the characteristic brick traditionally manufactured in this part of Umbria. The cathedral dedicated to Saints Gervasio and Protasio is situated right in the center of the town.

The walls of the Duomo are adorned with the artworks of Città della Pieve's two most famous painters: Pietro Vannucci, alias Perugino and Antonio Circignano, better known as Pomarancio. Works by these artists can be admired in a great number of the town's churches, the most worthy of note being Perugino's fresco of the Adoration of the Magi, displayed in the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi.

The perimeter walls, the 14th century Castle, and the 30meter high Torre del Pubblico have become symbols of this medieval town, as has the "Palio dei Terzieri", historic event which animates the streets of Città della Pieve each and every August.
