The region has many cities and hill towns such as Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia with its famous university, Todi and Spello the gem of the Valle of Spoleto, each with artistic and historical treasures. Beyond the busy hill cities are mountains, rivers pastures and fortresses. The countryside of Umbria is dotted with towns and ancient villages. In the South of the region is one of the most distinctive landscapes in all of Italy, the Piano Grande and the Monti Sibillini.
