Where time stands still and dreams come true

Three reasons why you'll love it here

  1. A taste of life in the ancient hamlet of Castel S. Giovanni
  2. Sleeping within the medieval walls of a castle in Umbria
  3. An unforgettable candlelit dinner in the watchtower

Before its transformation into a fascinating period residence, Umbria's Torre della Botonta was an integral part of Castel S. Giovanni, a small fortified hamlet in the countryside just beyond the town of Trevi. The origins of the outpost date back to the 14th century and over the centuries the fortress has been the subject of continual dispute between Spoleto, Trevi, and the Pontifical State. Today, Torre della Botonta has opened its doors to those travelers in search of a unique location in which to experience the art, history, and gastronomy of Umbria.

At Torre della Botonta guest accommodation is available in just four bedrooms and one suite, situated in three different buildings within the castle walls. All rooms feature the medieval edifices' original terracotta floors and vaulted ceilings and are adorned with a pleasing combination of antiques furniture and hand woven textiles and drapes made using hemp, linen, jute and silk. Torre della Botonta's 2 bedroom suite is accessed via a pretty loggia. In the apartment's large living room, there is a beautiful fresco, dating back to medieval times.

Torre della Botonta is the perfect location for those keen to experience a holiday in Umbria surrounded by the traces of the region's ancient art and architecture. Each and every corner of the period residence is steeped in centuries of history, commencing with the Rivellino, the structure which links the tower with the east tower, where a generous breakfast is served each morning. In the watchtower situated at the entrance of the fortified hamlet, there is a library and a dining room in which exclusive dinners for two are held.

The cuisine served in Torre della Botonta's "Grotta della Torre" restaurant is the perfect introduction to Umbria's age-old culinary tradition, prepared using the freshest of seasonal ingredients, including the region's highly prized truffles, black celery from Trevi, game meats and, of course, Umbria's excellent extra virgin olive oil. The combination of superb cuisine and beautiful dining venues make Torre della Botonta a fabulous location for banquets, receptions, and weddings, celebrated in the castle's small church.
