La Preghiera Calzolaro - Umbria

The La Preghiera luxury bed & breakfast is situated in the heart of the Umbrian countryside, just a short drive away from Perugia. La Preghiera occupies buildings dating back to the 12th century, originally built so as to provide a monastic complex for the Friars of the Mont'Ulivetani di Gubbio.

Restored and converted in a luxurious country estate by owner Liliana Richardson de Tunstill and her husband John, the main house, the adjacent Villa Moscatelli cottage and private chapel are surrounded by several acres of landscaped gardens with views over the stunningly beautiful Umbrian countryside.

This fascinating building boasts a multiplicity of age old architectural features including superb terracotta floors, huge exposed oak and chestnut beams and magnificent stone fireplaces. Each of La Preghiera's eleven bedrooms is exquisitely furnished with unique hand-crafted painted tables, elegant chairs, antique wardrobes and dressing tables. The beds are fitted with luxurious silk and the finest cotton blend sheets, so as to offer the maximum in comfort. Bathrooms are all in Italian marble.

La Preghiera's private chapel is a perfect location for wedding ceremonies, baptisms or renewals of vows. Legal religious ceremonies for weddings can be held in the chapel followed by a reception in the gardens or inside the old monastery. Alternatively, the chapel is often used for blessing ceremonies or simply as a beautiful space to gather together friends and family to share an intimate exchange of vows.

Guest staying at La Preghiera wake up to a delicious breakfast of freshly brewed coffee, home baked bread, jams, cereals, fresh fruits and local cheeses and cold cuts. In peak season, 3 course lunches are served in the garden. Traditional Umbrian dinners are also available (on request), and served in the elegant dining room or, on warm evenings, in the loggia.
