Castello di Petroia introduction
From its spectacular hill top position, Castello Petroia gazes out across Umbria's lush Chiascio valley, the same enchanting rural landscape immortalised in paintings by the great Renaissance artists, Perugino and Piero della Francesco. Castello Petroia dates back to the 12th century, when it was built as stronghold to guard over the territory surrounding the nearby medieval city of Gubbio. Today, after years of careful restoration work, the castle has been transformed in one of Umbria's finest historic residences.
Guest bedrooms and suites are distributed in three distinct buildings: the "Castellare maggiore", the "Castellare minore", and the "Mastio". All the rooms have been individually appointed with beautiful items of period furniture and exquisite artworks. A number of the rooms feature welcoming open fireplaces. Those searching for a truly unique place to stay need look no further than the Mastio, the old watch tower which has been converted in a fabulous 4 level apartment complete with panoramic terrace.
Castello di Petroia boasts a number of stunning public rooms. Guests take breakfast in the elegant Sala Guidubaldo. Dinner is served in the decidedly majestic Sala degli Accomandugi. The castle provides an idyllic setting for a romantic vacation but also for wedding receptions, concerts and business events hosted in the Sala dell'Astrolabio, the Loggia and Belvedere.
In the grounds of the hotel, overlooking a landscape of lush meadows and woodland, guests find Castello di Petroia's swimming pool and a practice range for golfers. An ideal base for those wishing to explore the region of Umbria, the Castello lies within easy reach of the beautiful medieval cities of Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Spello.
